County Implores Court to Stay the Course, Not the Case

 

Multnomah County has been forced to oppose yet another delay tactic by the fossil fuel defendants. On March 12, defendants moved to stay the entire case for an indeterminate period while the U.S. Supreme Court considers issues in a separate case that are distinguishable from the County’s claims. In its March 27 opposition, the County explains that defendants cannot meet the legal standard for a stay, that further delay would cause concrete harm, and that this case—focused on defendants’ deceptive conduct and local impacts—should proceed without interruption.
